How To Get Rid Of Fleas On Dogs At Home With Natural Remedies

I’ve got three dogs, a chocolate lab, a basset and a Chesapeake Bay. I live in Minnesota and my dogs love to roam on the acreage behind my house. Leashless parks are hard to find any more so I’m ecstatic to have a place out my back gate, but last fall, I had some regrets about how much I let the three of them roam. Frank, my basset came home scratching one day and I immediately thought, “Fleas.” I’ve heard how to get rid of fleas, but as an environmentally conscious person and one who didn’t want to make my pets suffer, I was afraid of all the dangerous and chemically unsafe products.

I wanted to know how to get rid of fleas on dogs naturally so that my pets wouldn’t be traumatized. When my lab started scratching, I decided I had to do something quick. I hadn’t let the dogs in to the house since I saw Frank scratching, so I wasn’t too concerned about that. For the dogs I found this recipe from a local pet shed that recommended a natural shampoo to kill the fleas on dogs.

The shampoo saved my dogs from having to endure the filthy chemicals that are so readily hocked on unknowing pet owners who are stressed about their cats and dogs. The shampoo was easy to make. Go to a local organic grocer (Whole Foods works just fine) and pick up: rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus, citronella and juniper. One stock or bunch of each will be fine. Get everything fresh that you can. Puree these ingredients in as little water as possible and mix them with a cup of your own shampoo.

Don’t be stingy with the mix, but if you’ve got three dogs like I do, make sure a cup gets the job done since this stuff is a little on the pricey side. Lather all three dogs before rinsing the first, and if you can afford the time, let the shampoo soak in for about a half hour. One wash should do the trick if you got your shampoo concentrated enough.

Flea bites on humans can be a real bummer, so be careful applying the shampoo and wear gloves. As far as I know this is the best way how to get rid of fleas on dogs fast. Most how to get rid of fleas on dogs home remedies aren’t potent enough, but I’ve used this one twice now and it worked both times. I know you’ll be happy with the solution if your dogs end up in a similar predicament.
